What is independent cinema ?

An independent film, independent movie, indie film or indie movie is a feature film that is produced outside the major film studio system, in addition to being produced and distributed by independent entertainment companies.


Independent films are often based on more difficult subjects, as they appeal to a different target audience. Main stream cinema films are often described as “easy” to watch, as they tend to deal with less sensitive topics and don’t make the viewer think as much. However, indie films engage the viewer, and often have controversial and thought provoking themes and story lines, making the viewer engage more.

Evaluative Analysis   Jack Talbot My production is the short film The Game – a film that establishes and develops a character. The Game explores the thought process of a gambler, who finds himself in high stakes poker game which then leads to an intense game of Russian roulette. Whilst making The Game, my intentions were to make the audience empathise with the narrator, and to show them how judgement takes place in the mind.
