Mise-en-scene

Mise-en-scene Dark room = the setting for the film to take place Single dim light = sets the tone of the film, a tense darkroom is a great place for a poker game to take place 4-5 chairs = for the players to sit at the table Table = for the game to take place Green table cloth = to resemble the traditional casino setting  Deck of Cards = to use for the game Poker Chips = to make action in the pot Revolver = for Russian roulette tape = To cover up light to make it dark enough fake blood = in case anyone gets shot in Russian roulette Still need to get black spray paint to change the colour of the revolver  Still need to get green table cloth Still need to get foldable table Still need to get enough poker chips

Short film ideas

Short Film  Ideas  gambling 3-5 players poker- then step up to  Russian roulette Dark room minimal dialogue  Narrative that develops a single character (non diegetic) Risk one singular light  only complex dialogue happens in the main character's head description (limited) of how he got there and analysis of each other player either from point of view of dealer  from point of view of player description of each player Many close ups of face, cards, mannerisms, chip playing, tipping the dealer etc  limited speech depending on player

The Gunfighter 9 minutes

The Gunfighter (9 Minutes) The Theme of a quiet drifter  Non diegetic sound All from voice of person over head The voice knows exactly whats going on  the idea of the voice being the narrative a tense situation Gunfight build up  Comedic exchanges between both narrative voice and people in bar Mid shots mainly used, just to capture each person Kind of gets complex Narration always itching at different characters Narration pushes towards a finale  Narration prompts a big final battle or climax

La Jetee 28 minutes

La Jetee (28 minute) Lots of exposition inform of non diegetic sound Plenty of shots in low key lighting  Heavy use of darkness Lots of disturbing shots Almost torture Experiments going wrong Flash backs and flash forwards mid shots longshots Plenty of description of how things came to be Crazy dystopian future ideas Narrative non diegetic (Voice over from here) Almost circular narrative (Remembering the face + killing of man) Story does full loop

Shot log

Shot log  Zoom in shot of cards being shuffled 360 pan of all players from centre of table Close up of each players face  Then close up of hands Close up of subtle movements Shots of main protagonist as he thinks Shots of chips going into the pot, mid and close ups Maybe a tilt of centre of table Shots of feet tapping Shots of playing with chips Shots of the individual players with freeze frame for a couple of seconds Shots of people losing standing up and walking out Shot of protagonist in foreground and challenger in background Close up of gun on table Series of tense close u shots of game of Russian roulette EITHER shot of the winner stood over the loser OR a sudden flash of white with a shot of the winner (protagonist) followed by  close up of the winner's face

Film Plan

Filming Plan  The film will be about 4-5 people engaged in a high stakes poker game with a different ending. There'll be three main parts to the film: The rough plan  1. The exposition and explanation of the main character. Here there'll be close up shots of hands being played, plays being called and action in the pot. There'll be mid shots of different characters, displaying different  postures and mannerisms of each individual. 2. Explaining the different characteristics of each individual, twitches, habits tipping dealer, bluffing, decision making, time of fold, time of check, time of raises, amount raised, personality. 3. When the game has gone on for a long time, they will resort to a higher form of gambling: Russian Roulette. Here there'll be plenty of long shots, maybe a zolly, a lot of tense shots. Building suspense, people win and lose. Throughout the film there'll be plenty of close up shots, to describe how the different individuals play som
